Cherelle:<\/strong> This was a book I read after a breakup with my long-time girlfriend. It helped to see Keleya&#8217;s <strong>breakup and new relationship<\/strong>, and to know I could pick up the pieces.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=34\">Am I My Sister\u2019s Keeper?<\/a><\/em> <strong>by S. Stephens (Dec. 2005 Pick of the Month):<\/strong> I read this book a long time ago, but the struggle Elise deals with in coming to terms with her sexuality and trying to tell her family resonated with me when I was dealing with my own <strong>coming out issues<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=1993\">Be the Sun Again<\/a><\/em> <strong>by Teryn:<\/strong> <strong>Self-love and self-esteem issues<\/strong> were tragically brought to life with Teryn&#8217;s novel that shows one should rely on God to show you the way to loving yourself.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=893\">Diary of a Sex Addict<\/a><\/em> <strong>by Shalona L. Amos:<\/strong> MC Tiffany&#8217;s <strong>sexual addiction<\/strong> stemmed from low self-esteem and abandonment, and you really get into her head as she spirals out of control. For Tiffany, sex was a way to feel powerful, and then alone once the high wore off, just like any other addiction. But she does learn to love herself &#8212; eventually.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=279\">Grace After Midnight<\/a><\/em> <strong>by Felicia \u201cSnoop\u201d Pearson:<\/strong> Snoop&#8217;s story of her life, her <strong>upbringing in the streets<\/strong> of Baltimore, the place that both raised and almost killed her. The night of she killed a girl in self-defense is talked about, as well as her stint in prison and her rise to fame on HBO&#8217;s <em>The Wire<\/em>. Gritty, but reflective.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=3459\">HIGH \u2013 On Love &amp; Addiction<\/a><\/em><strong> by April Joy Bowden and Jeanie RAINBOW Bell:<\/strong> The relationship between two women who deal with one&#8217;s <strong>drug addiction<\/strong>is a hard read at times, to witness what the addiction does to Joy and Jeanie&#8217;s relationship.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=164\">I Am Your Sist<strong>er<\/strong><\/a><\/em><strong> by Ericka K. F. Simpson<\/strong>: This is one of my favorite books. Symone&#8217;s sexuality was a hindrance to her basketball career, but she always managed to bring it back to <strong>God<\/strong> and trust in Him. I was moved by her tale.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=1700\">M+O 4EVR<\/a><\/em> by Tonya Hegamin (Aug. 2010 Pick of the Month):<\/strong> Sad, sad, sad story about <strong>unrequited love<\/strong> and how that love could have saved a life. My heart broke for Opal, but her story does have a somewhat happy ending.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=2199\">Mental Silhouette<\/a> <\/em>by Renair Amin: Amin&#8217;s poetry is beautiful, colorful and full of <strong>ache<\/strong>. She touches on so many personal issues that any woman can relate to on some level.<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=1653\">The Other Side of Paradise<\/a><\/em> <strong>by Staceyann Chin:<\/strong> Such a heartbreaking story about Chin&#8217;s growing up in Jamaica after her <strong>mother&#8217;s abandonment<\/strong> and discovering her sexuality. The writing, though sad, is luscious.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BONUS PICK:\u00a0 <em><a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=3046\">Girl in the Mirror<\/a><\/em> by Alix B. Golden<\/strong> (Aug. 2012 Pick of the Month): This tale of <strong>trying to find love through others<\/strong> instead of loving yourself is deeply moving.
