For me, it always helps me to get more into the book. Some of the most popular and talked about books (I&#8217;m looking at you, Skyy) have been discussed frequently as to who would play the roles of the main characters. For me, it may not always be about looks, but just about who could bring life to the roles. These are just a sampling of whom I could see in my favorite books. She could make women swoon (at least for me). I think AzMarie embodies who Denise is: power with a sensitive side. Her being gay will also bring an authenticity to the role of Denise. F. Simpson:\u00a0<\/span> Chamique Holdsclaw<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s been a baller most of her life. She&#8217;s weathered some <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/espnw\/news-commentary\/article\/9503883\/chamique-holdsclaw-rebounds-free-mental-prison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">troubles<\/a>. All of which can only help her in the role of Symone, who falls but never loses her stride. Let&#8217;s hope Paula can stay sober enough to play the role (have you seen her at award shows lately?)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #32cd32;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5353\" src=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/sonjasohn.jpg\" alt=\"sonjasohn\" width=\"229\" height=\"287\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #32cd32;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Alana Quick from <a href=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/?p=5230\"><em>Ascension<\/em> <\/a>by Jaqueline Koyanagi:<\/span> \u00a0Sonja Sohn<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though she doesn&#8217;t have the engineer&#8217;s trademark dreadlocks, Sonja is whom I picture playing Alana. From her turn on <em>The Wire<\/em>, Sonja has a strength and maturity I could see her bringing to disabled Alana&#8217;s story. That mellifluous voice doesn&#8217;t hurt also.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #32cd32;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5350\" src=\"http:\/\/sistahsontheshelf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/esperanzaspalding.jpg\" alt=\"esperanzaspalding\" width=\"311\" height=\"208\" \/> <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #32cd32;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Tonya Mimms from <em>Water in a Broken Glass<\/em> by Odessa Rose:\u00a0<\/span> Esperanza Spalding<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jazz bassist, cellist and singer Esperanza is a true artist, just like sculptor Tonya. I know she could rock it. And have you seen Esperanza&#8217;s short movie, <em>Radio Music Society, <\/em>based on the album of the same name? At first, I thought about Keke Palmer, but I wanted a under-exposed face for AnnMarie. Rae\u2019Ven, who portrayed a young Tina Turner in <em>What\u2019s Love Got To Do With It<\/em> and<em> A Time To Kill<\/em>, has the chops to skillfully show AnnMarie&#8217;s dramatic life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what do you think?
